Shopping is big in Cancun. There are over 2,000 commercial outlets throughout the hotel zone and downtown, including 8 major shopping malls and 7 markets. All of them have bars, boutiques, casual and sports clothing stores, perfumeries, handicraft shops, pharmacies, restaurants and cafes. However, each has its own unique features. The maximum import tariff here is 5% enabling outlets to offer prices in the same range as duty-free prices. Additionally, the value added tax here is 10% as opposed to 15% in other states of Mexico. These represent great benefits which the outlets are able to pass on to their customers.
Plaza Caracol. The largest and most contemporary of the malls, it is located north of the Convention Center. It houses about 200 shops and boutiques, including two pharmacies, art galleries, a currency exchange, and folk-art and jewelry shops, as well as
